Hot Cross Buns

Today we made hot cross buns for Easter. We began by taking turns to add the various ingredients to the pan. We then put the pan into the bread maker and the bread maker kneaded the the ingredients so that it became dough.
Once the dough was kneaded we broke it into 16 sections, so that there was a piece for us each. We rolled our piece of dough into a ball and then placed it in a tray to be left in the sun and warmth to rise.
After lunch Mrs Clark gave us a ball of pastry. We broke the ball into two and rolled it into 'snakes' which we then created the crosses for the top of our buns. Mrs Clark then put our buns in the oven to bake.
While our buns were baking in the oven we coloured, cut out and stuck together some paper baskets for our hot cross buns to go in. To finish the activity we were able to enjoy our hot cross buns for afternoon tea! Yummm

  2. What a great learning lesson and treat rolled into one! The children looked very proud of themselves when the school bell went and they came out with their Easter baskets and bun! "Any for me Katie", I asked, no replie from Katie...she was too busy eating!

  5. What a fun lesson...We had visitors staying that night...Riley was pretty excited to pass it round the table after dinner so we could all have 'one bite each' :)
